What Vouchers do we do?
So we have had a lot of people asking whether or not we do vouchers over this Christmas period… and we do! We’re always happy to help out with presents!
So the next question is “what do we do vouchers for?”
The answer to that is anything! What you get is an A4 sheet of paper with what you want to give as a present. So this may be “Afternoon Tea for Two” or “Sunday Lunch for Four”. So you can pick any menu or item or alternatively, you could go for a voucher that is up to a set value, as in a voucher for £20, £30, £50 to spend at Barnsgate, if you wanted to give a bit more freedom for choice.
All our vouchers can be personalised with a message if you would like to add that extra special touch!
How Do I Buy a Voucher?
There are two ways you can purchase a voucher…
You could pop in and see us! When you arrive at the manor house, all you need to do is speak to one of the waiting staff who will take payment for the value of the voucher and let us know what needs to be printed. There may be a short wait for the voucher while we get it printed for you. So you might want to take the chance to grab a coffee.
Or you could contact us online. Just select “vouchers” from the drop-down box and let us know what you would like. You just have to make sure to leave your number. This is so that we can give you a call to take payment over the phone. Once payment has been received, we can then email it out to you with a receipt for you to print off at home.
How Long are They Valid For?
The voucher is valid for 1 year after the date of purchase. Hopefully, this should be more than enough time for the voucher to be redeemed by the grateful recipient!
We try to do what we can for good causes at Barnsgate but there is one cause that is especially fun and festive to participate in. That would be #ChristmasJumperDay!
What is Christmas Jumper Day?
The idea is for people to donate so they can have an excuse to put on their most awful and outrageous Christmas jumpers on the 15th December. This is a campaign that was started by Save the Children. They help to build better lives for children in third world countries by providing medication, water, clothing and more.
Christmas is a time for coming together. We eat, we cheer and we (hopefully) get to unwrap lots and lots of presents! For those of us who are a bit older, we often look back at what Christmas was like as Children. The excitement of waking up in the morning and digging out your presents. The sad reality is, however, that not all the children in the world get to experience what we do. Each day is a fight, struggling to make it through to tomorrow. That’s not a childhood. This is why the work that Save the Children is doing is so important. Not only do they provide life-saving resources for these children but they also give hope for tomorrow.
What can you do?
Here at Barnsgate, we will be adorning our most embarrassing and disastrous Christmas Jumpers. I am a bit of a scrooge myself and so I have acquired a jumper of a pug wearing a Christmas hat. It’s captioned “bah humpug” so I’m chuffed to bits with mine and I will be putting £2 in the pot to put it on at work. If you wanted to get on board, why not join us at Barnsgate wearing your own whacky winter wear and donate a couple of quid to do so? Even if it’s just to pop down for some coffee!
The Christmas Jumper team have come up with lots of other ways to make money for Save the Children too. You could host a Make & Bake sale, a naff raffle with funny, yet useless, Christmas prizes or they have office sweepstake posters. Sunday 5th November – Barnsgate Christmas Craft Fair
The year seems to have flown by in the blink of an eye yet again. People have already started preparing for Christmas which is why we have our Christmas Craft Fair at the end of this week!
It is going to be a golden opportunity to pick up some wonderful, hand-made gifts. Crafters are coming from all over to showcase their creativity and offer you a chance to buy some of their exclusive gifts. Here are some of the crafts you can expect to find:

Gift Trugs and Sussex Produce
Wooden Toys and Decorations
Spa Products and Home Fragrance
Sweets, Cupcakes, Jams, Jellies, Chutneys
That’s to name just a few items! There really is going to be something for everyone. The Craft Fair is free all day long. The doors open from 10 am – 4 pm on Sunday 5th November so why not pop down and have a browse? Our Manor House Restaurant will be open for Lunch as usual so you can really make a day of it. Let’s give ourselves a bit of a headstart when it comes to Christmas Pressies!
If you have been to Barnsgate recently or even passed by, you may have seen some banners advertising the NSPCC Craft Fair coming up on the 4th.
The annual craft fair has become somewhat of a tradition here at Barnsgate and it gets better and better every year. It is an ideal opportunity to pick up some early Christmas Presents and support the fantastic work of the NSPCC.
The NSPCC is the leading Charity that fights to prevent child abuse in the UK. They help children that have been abused and guide them to rebuild their lives. They protect children in the midst of abuse and are constantly searching for ways to put an end to abuse once and for all.
It is very sad to think that abuse still happens today, which is why we need to find ways to support causes such as the NSPCC. Whether it is a simple donation, campaigning or taking part in one of their many events. It all helps to create a brighter future for these children.
The NSPCC Craft Fair
So why not come and join us at the NSPCC Craft Fair on the 4th? Entrance is £2.50 towards the work of the NSPCC. Refreshments are available and there is also the annual raffle with some amazing prizes up for grabs! The doors open from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm and the craft fair is taking place in our Ashdown Suite and Historic Museum Barn.

The wedding day included a three-course meal, a “Cheesecake”, a string quartet, floral arrangements and lots more. All fantastically captured by the photographers.
Technology has even taken photography a step further with aerial shots from a drone. I imagine it is pretty nerve-wracking from the photographers perspective to fly hundreds of pounds worth of kit up into the air! However, the images came out brilliantly and we have shared a few shots from the drone above.

The Llamas have been with us since the very beginning. They were a temperamental bunch to begin with and they ended up at Barnsgate because they were not very well behaved at the llama park. Over the years, however, they had grown to be a charismatic and charming group. Content with their peaceful life and their bowls of llama mix.
We know many of you will be just as sad to see them go as we are. They enjoyed their fair share of fame here at Barnsgate. However, an opportunity arose for the llamas to make a new home at Reading University. There, they will be looked after by experts and are available to donate their blood plasma to give sickly, newborn llamas a better first start in life.
It’s a really good cause they will be contributing to and we have heard that they have settled in just fine in their cosy new field. We will surely miss them, we have been with them through thick and thin but it’s comforting to know they have gone somewhere that they will be looked after, loved and appreciated.
So goodbye to Kronk, Spit, Patrick, Fitch, Tina, Bright Eyes, Ian and Croft and good luck at Uni!
Afternoon Tea is a famous British tradition known the world over. People stop to enjoy a pot of tea with cakes and sandwiches to tide them over from lunchtime to dinner time. The tradition was actually started in the 19th century when the Duchess of Bedford realised she would always be hungry around 4 in the afternoon. So she would enjoy some bread with a pot of tea and a selection of cakes to see her through to her 8 o’clock meal. Soon after this became a habit, she began to invite guests over to join her for her afternoon selection and word spread across high society… Soon enough it became a habit for many! So it still continues today…
All across the country, different county’s boast their afternoon tea excellence. We’re guilty as charged at Barnsgate! We serve afternoon teas daily to our guests for them to enjoy on the terrace overlooking the South Downs. Everything is freshly homemade and couldn’t possibly leave you wanting for more (it is, however, part of the tradition to leave something from your selection but take that as you will!)
Booking your Afternoon Tea
Pre-booking is essential when it comes to our Afternoon Teas as everything is made to order. Each costs £12.50 per person and consists of mixed fruit and plain mini-scones, jam and clotted cream, a selection of sandwiches and cocktail cakes as well as a pot of tea or coffee.
It is great fun and a wonderful, social tradition to enjoy an afternoon tea. We’re proud to be keeping that alive at Barnsgate. If you would like to book, please contact us at least a couple of days in advance through our contact page. My advice? Try it while the sun is still shining! The view of the South Downs is breathtaking at the moment. It’s best to enjoy it on the terrace before winter comes racing around the corner!

The past few days have hardly sung of sunshine and barbecue weather but we have had a fair few dry spells this year and that means, for a lot of people, it’s time to get the tongs out and start grilling! A lot of effort went into the presentation of our Ashdown Restaurant function suite. Throughout the day members were hanging banners, arranging tables and making sure it was going to be a night to remember.
Guests were able to mingle in our function suite as well as on our balcony while enjoying the views of the south downs (due to the weather being permitting of course!) before sitting down to a three-course meal from a set menu prepared for the evening.
The RAF Air Cadets do a lot of work to support the Royal Air Forces Association which is a charity set up to support families of RAF members through every stage of their life. They provide help by participating in exhibitions, helping less mobile, older members and joining in line ups at formal parades to point out a few examples.
Their work is valued and appreciated. The RAF offers two awards for their participation. Flying Scholarships and their rafa YOUTH Cyprus Award to help further their career opportunities within the RAF. I feel this highlights what a wonderful organisation the RAF Air Cadets really is.
I’m talking about the Barnsgate Llamas! You may or may not have known that we have eight llamas all residing in comfort at the top of our drive, but as of late they have been making themselves known by bounding majestically to the fence line to greet random passers-by.
You may catch one of our majestic, fluffy friends galloping full pelt to the top of our grass mound with their head flailing all over the place… just so that they can have their picture taken.
They truly are living the high life. They have everything they could want with two different types of highly nutritional llama food with lashings of syrup, fresh vegetable trimmings from the kitchen, they even have a paddling pool for those days when the weather is hot and a llama has to cool themselves down.
It may surprise you to know, Barnsgate Manor has always had llamas. Even from the beginning over 25 years ago. With access to three different paddocks, the llamas have always been hard to spot. However, since the new shelter has been finished, the llamas have very much enjoyed the warmth that it provides and have made themselves at home in the first paddock.
Why not come and say hello? Their names are Kronk, Spit, Ian, Patrick, Bright Eyes, Tina, Fitch and Llama Croft. (All appropriately named by the kitchen staff that keep them fed up with veggies!) . See if you can guess who is who! It won’t cost you anything and the restaurant will be available for you to grab a bite to eat while you’re there!
