For many people, when it comes to deciding on a wedding cake, “sweet or savoury” never even comes into the equation. It would appear, however, that there is a new trend on the rise for those with less of a sweet-tooth.
“Cheese-cakes” appear to be bursting onto the scene. If you are out for a meal and you choose to skip dessert and head straight for the Cheeseboard, why should your wedding be any different if cheese is what you love?
This particular cheese-cake was made up of Sussex Farmhouse, Sussex Blue, Sussex Brie, Organic Cheddar, Lord London and Mayfield Cheese’s and was garnished with physalis, figs, green and red grapes and some of our very own fresh, organic, grapevine leaves.
Alongside it was a blackboard that read:
“Sweet Dreams are Made of Cheese, Who am I to Dis-a-Brie? I Cheddar the World and the Feta Cheese, Everybody’s looking for Stilton.
Please help yourselves to our cheeseboard!
-Tom & Jess”
It was a lot of fun and an interesting, unique alternative to the traditional wedding cake. It looked excellent! We hope that Tom and Jess had the most wonderful day yesterday. We wish them many happy and exciting years to come!

Wedding photos are a necessity on every wedding day. The special moments need to be captured to look back at throughout the rest of your lives together but what about a wedding video?
Having a video made of your wedding day brings it all back so vividly. Truly allowing you to relive the whole experience time and time again. That is what Cameron at CameraOn Weddings specialises in.
Cameron will spend the day with you, documenting every heart-warming moment before heading to the lab and carefully putting the video together piece by piece. Although the video above is but just a snippet, he does provide full-length videos also.
Emma and Aaron’s wedding day was truly a day to remember. But having this video will take them back in time and they will, without a doubt, treasure this footage forever.
Did you like the look of the venue in the video? Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions regarding our weddings. We would be delighted to discuss your requirements and send you some of our brochures.
Well, I thought I had seen it all until last Saturday! The thundering roar of a bright red big rig soon got me out of the office. The Bride and Groom of the day clearly had decided to arrive in the most magnificent of fashions as they hopped out of this awesome vehicle. (Hats off to the driver who managed to navigate the drive!) This got me thinking, what are the top ten best ways for you and your partner to arrive at your venue in a way no one will ever forget? In no particular order:
1. Vintage Bus
All the luxury without the rabble! Many people have always wanted to experience what it is like on an open top bus, this could be your chance! You get the added benefit of space for your friends and family on the way to the venue!
Nothing exudes more style and prestige than a Rolls Royce. This luxury car comes with every feature imaginable for you to enjoy on your way to your big day. It’s a dream for many to even sit in such a vehicle. It’s an unforgettable experience to be driven somewhere in one.
Regal, yet surprisingly affordable! This carriage seats up to 4 people and comes in a range of different colours. Sure, you are going to take a while to get to where you’re going… but at least you can make the most of this once in a lifetime experience! Just make sure it’s not too far for the horses to go!
Horse and Cart not slow enough for you to enjoy the moment? This should do the trick! It doesn’t come much more classic and historical than this. Some companies even give you the opportunity to drive it yourself. It’s bound to make quite the entrance.
Okay, so maybe slow isn’t for you. At the other end of the spectrum, you could hire a supercar! The car pictured above is a Lamborghini LP560 Spider and has all the speed and all the style you could hope for. Of course, you could hire a Ferrari, Aston Martin, Porsche and all other manner of fast cars as well!
As mentioned before, A big rig does make for a really BIG entrance. If your big day calls for a big vehicle, then why not? The experience isn’t complete however until you honk the horn so make sure you give all your friends and family a jump before leaving the cabin!
Who needs the road when you can touch the clouds with your one beloved on your special day? Hot air balloons are available to hire for your wedding with varying cabin sizes so you can take as many or as few people as you would like with you. Make sure to have your guests bring their sunglasses with them so they can keep their eye’s in the sky!
Here’s a blast from the past! It’s hard to not see a campervan on the road and point it out. It has to be one of the most iconic and fun vehicles to have ever been produced. One sure way of a stylish and cosy arrival!
If you have farming roots in your family and you want to celebrate your heritage, a tractor can be a very fun way to do that. There are lots of options to personalise the carriage and the idea itself does seem very romantic.
It was always going to make the list… You’re looking to make a statement? A Helicopter could be the way to go! A flight plan will be chartered for you and costs a lot less than you might originally think. It’s a great way to get an aerial view of your venue before you arrive.
However you plan to arrive on your special day, make sure it is memorable. It is a once in a lifetime opportunity. A day completely dedicated to you. Nothing should stop you organising what is destined to be the happiest and greatest experience of your life, just the way you want it. We pride ourselves on helping to make your day perfect. If you’re looking to plan your big day, get in touch with us and ask for a brochure. We would love to help make it special!
We hosted another wonderful wedding last Saturday for Emma and Aaron. Congratulations to the both of you! We wish you a life of love and happiness together! It was a lovely set-up. Here are some of the pictures we got of the day:
Before the guests got started, we had some canopés for people to enjoy. They are the perfect party food. Full of taste and light enough to not spoil your meal (depending on how many you eat of course!). I wanted to share our recipes for three different canopés we had on offer.
The amounts vary depending on how many guests you have.
To make the croutè, we cut some discs out of white and brown slices of bread with a round cake cutter and toasted until crisp. The cheese croutès had a pinch of grated cheddar on top before toasting.
Smoked Salmon Roulade Stuffed with Spring Onion and Cream Cheese
White bread croutès
Smoked Salmon Slices
Finely chop the spring onions and mix with the cream cheese
Lay out a slice of smoked salmon and with a piping bag, pipe the cream cheese mix along one side of the salmon.
Gently roll the salmon around the cream cheese mix.
Slice the roll into roughly 1cm discs.
Place on top of your Croutès and top with a small segment of lemon.
Duck Liver Patè
Salt and Pepper
Brown Bread Croutès
Chop the onion and slowly cook in a pan with the duck livers, onion, butter, brandy, salt and pepper until the liver is soft.
Blend the mixture together until it makes a smooth paste.

We cater for parties of all sizes and offer the exclusive use of either our stylish Manor House Restaurant or for larger parties our Ashdown Suite, which is full of rustic character and seats up to 200 guests in comfort.
The question that is on most people’s minds when booking a venue is “What are we to do about food and drink?” We can offer a three-course meal from a menu of your choice for all your guests. If that’s a bit formal, the season is coming around for wonderful summer barbeques, hog roasts and buffets. With regards to drinks, we have a bar in both our Manor House and Ashdown Restaurant available for your party to use exclusively.
We have additional extras available to offer as well. A disco can be arranged in the Ashdown Cellars, our air-conditioned party room, with its own bar and outside patio area. The DJ can either be booked separately or can be included in our party package using our trusted DJ.
What would a party be without photos to remember it by? We also recommend getting in touch with Portal Pod Photo Booths for the use of their Magic Mirror photo frame. This top end piece of equipment takes full-length photographs of your guests with many different ways to personalise your photographs. You can get in touch with them for a quote through their facebook page here.
Give us a call or get in touch through our website. We would be happy to discuss any ideas with you to make sure you have the most memorable event yet!

Bright and early last Sunday morning, we had 35 gleaming MG’s – old and new – join us for a morning tea before their Spring Run. Though the weather was slightly overcast in the morning. There was no doubt that the sight of these stunning cars would brighten up any passer-by’s day!
The club was formed in 1930 by the MG factory in Abingdon. It boasts a worldwide membership of over 50,000 enthusiasts. Each centre organises their own events and as you can see from the South East Centre’s calendar here. They are keeping themselves very occupied.
The MGCC welcomes all MG owners, whether your car is old or new. It offers a fantastic opportunity to get together with like-minded enthusiasts and share your passion for these wonderful cars as well as offering the chance to take part in some very exciting events. You can find out more about joining here: http://www.mgcc.co.uk/membership/join-now/
It is not the first time an MG run has visited Barnsgate. Our venue has also been used as a finishing point with cream teas provided. We received some wonderful feedback:
“Hopefully we will be back again as the spacious parking, wonderful views and beautiful venue suit the MG Car Club very well and we have always been made very welcome.”
We are glad you feel this way MGCC! We very much hope to see you again in the future also. Seeing your cars really made our day so pop back anytime! We hope you had a very successful and enjoyable run!
For those of you who didn’t know, #DriveItDay was yesterday which meant if you were out on the road, chances are that you managed to glimpse some stunning vehicles out and about!
The weather was lovely and we were lucky enough to host the Morgan Sports Car Club from Brighton for Sunday Lunch!
You can just imagine how wonderful it would be to go on a Sunday drive through Sussex with the roof down in one of these truly distinguished motors. The Morgan Sports Car Club boasts over 5000 members worldwide and it is not exclusive to owners. Enthusiasts are welcome to join and take part in events. Each center organises track and training days as well as their “Noggin & Natter” events to get together and chat. They even have their own monthly publication for group members.
The club started with a small article in the Autocar magazine over 50 years ago advertising for any Morgan owners who would like to form a club. Now they organise tours all over the world visiting famous tracks and locations such as New Zealand and Le Mans!
Being that it was St. Georges day, we displayed the tables with a red and white theme. There was a set menu prepared for the day with a choice of Lamb, Stuffed Chicken, Cod or Halloumi Strudel. We very much hope you enjoyed your stay with us. We certainly enjoyed having you!
A lot of effort went into the presentation of our Ashdown Restaurant function suite. Throughout the day members were hanging banners, arranging tables and making sure it was going to be a night to remember.
Guests were able to mingle in our function suite as well as on our balcony while enjoying the views of the south downs (due to the weather being permitting of course!) before sitting down to a three-course meal from a set menu prepared for the evening.
The RAF Air Cadets do a lot of work to support the Royal Air Forces Association which is a charity set up to support families of RAF members through every stage of their life. They provide help by participating in exhibitions, helping less mobile, older members and joining in line ups at formal parades to point out a few examples.
Their work is valued and appreciated. The RAF offers two awards for their participation. Flying Scholarships and their rafa YOUTH Cyprus Award to help further their career opportunities within the RAF. I feel this highlights what a wonderful organisation the RAF Air Cadets really is.
